Recently moved from Brentwood to Stock having grown up in Romford. Stock is fucking beautiful and has some of the best country pubs and the Hoop beer festival each year is great.

Great place Stock... used to play Cricket against them as well... some cracking boozers in the village.

Viper is run by big West Ham fan....when we lose he's so miserable (most of the time).

Cricketers is really nice since its been taken over and had a refurb...

Some amazing gaffs around there.

Regarding the reopening of central line to Ongar I know for a fact surveys have taken place to cost re electrifying the existing line. Also soil tests in fields near Four Wantz roundabout have also taken place, as they may want to route it over that way due to land near old station now being housing developments. As a terminal station it requires car parking (like Epping). Like anything it’s just a plan at the moment but it’s got more legs than most think.

My folks live in Tollesbury. Nice place, right out in the sticks, nice old pub and great primary school. Kelvedon is 15 mins, Witham 20 mins drive. Quite a few people have moved there over recent years so there are more than 3 surnames in the village now.

Jim79,

arf at the broadband speed comment.

My Dad's place is the furthest property from the exchange, he gets a trickle on a good day.

After the great storm of 87 we had no electricity for two weeks.

Proper rural me.

Fryerning CM4 'not for the poor'

The Cricketers pub is decent.

The Viper secluded in the woods is one of my favourite pubs anywhere. Proper country pub, used to have it's very own death chair, where the eldest regular who is deemed most likely to go next takes pole position.

I drive from Stock to Ingatestone everyday, takes 10mins and there is always space in the car park, it’s a beautiful little country station. Both Wickford and Billericay stations are also within a 10min drive so plenty of options. It really is a fantastic place to live, only downside is broadband speed, fibre optic hasn’t made it out to the countryside yet!!!

terry-h.....
Hutton Mount houses the peasants compared to

Fryerning which houses the real gentry.

I love living in Shenfield but also like Stock/Ingatestone (some of it)j

Just stay north of the A127...below is Pikeyville.

Re: Essex - Good Places to Live
Some great shouts there Sidney. From that list my top two might be:-

Maldon is beautiful but a much tougher commute than Stock, a short drive to Ingatestone station.

Enjoy your house hunting.

Personally I find it an utter CUNT, dealing with ARSEHOLES and SHITCUNTS.

How some people actually enjoy TV property programs is beyond me.

Re: Essex - Good Places to Live
So is Shenfield or Hutton Mount better? I knew a stocks and shares man from Shenfield in the roads above the station, said you'd be better off the other side.

Is Billericay worth considering?

Looking further out to property matches in Tolleshunt Knights, Wickham Bishops, Roydon, Stock, Maldon, Matching Green, Widdington, High Ongar.

Shenfield houses the peasants.
Hutton Mount the local gentry.

If you use Zoopla they have demographic breakdowns of neighbours, leisure time activities, papers they read, the sort of thing.

Watch out for a street full of Daily Mail readers!

I would say Maylandsea but I don't want other people to know.
I've been here 29 years after living in Plaistow Stratford East Ham and Forest Gate.
This is wonderful if you like quietness and your own space.
More importantly property is cheap.

Re: Essex - Good Places to Live
i live in Leigh on sea via Benfleet ...

Leigh is vastly over-rated , best place in the UK to live according the the Times a few years back..

any charm it did have has slowly evaporated over the last 20 years or so , for a multitude of reasons , none of which i can be bothered to go into now

If we’re talking about The Crown opposite The Railway then yes, they had live bands on Saturday nights for a while, quite enjoyed going in there till they stopped it. About 4/5 years ago.
